Peek A Boo Lake Trail #656
The trail starts off on a old logging road, after hiking 0.4 mile the road narrows into a trail through lush forest with stately hemlocks and Alaska Yellow Cedars. At this point the hike will be a steady climb of several switchbacks with a array of summer wildflowers. The hike continues like a roller-coaster with several ups and downs and you wonder if the lake is just around the corner or the next descend down the slope.
When you reach the ridge the hiking gets easier and opens up into alpine meadow of heather, Fragrant Bog Orchid, woodland violets and so much more. As you walk along the meadow you will see a way trail that takes you to a great view of White Chuck Mountain and the Sauk River below. After passing through the meadow, the trail starts to descend down into the forest and on to the lake.
Once you get down to the lake, you will notice there are three primitive campsites nestled along the lake amongst trees and boulders for those who wish to make this an overnight trip. There are some way trails around the lake and a bit of a bush whack. One heads northern to a nice view of the lake and Mt. Pugh and one more southeastern where the drainage of the lake is, where the lake drains down a cliff forming Peek A Boo Falls. Keep in mind, this is a very steep cliff and unsafe footing to proceed to a viewing of this waterfall.
